Riksbank asks Riksdag to start preparing digital krona legislation, citing digital euro and stablecoins
In a letter to the Riksdag's Committee on Finance dated 7 October 2026 and published on 15 October, Sweden's Riksbank said developments since the Payments Inquiry's report may require a new assessment of a digital krona (e-krona), citing the deteriorating geopolitical situation, the digital euro (ECB pilot planned for the second half of 2027, public launch in 2029) and the growth of stablecoins.
