The Reserve Bank of India named Kotak Mahindra Bank among four banks to join its retail digital rupee (e₹-R) pilot after the first phase. On 2 February 2023 Kotak said it had rolled out the CBDC to a closed user group of retail consumers and businesses, with the pilot in Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad.
