APACSource: Global Layer One Organisation
- HSBC, Kinexys by J.P. Morgan, MUFG Bank, Societe Generale-FORGE and Standard Chartered announced on 4 November 2026 that they have jointly established the Global Layer One Organisation (GL1 Org), a Singapore-based non-profit that will support the development and adoption of common standards and frameworks for tokenised financial markets.
- GL1 Org builds on Global Layer One, an initiative convened by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and will continue developing GL1's Market Infrastructure (MI) Toolkit and Programmable Compliance (PC) Toolkit while supporting connectivity across institutions, infrastructures and jurisdictions; it welcomes participation from financial institutions, policymakers, market infrastructure providers and FinTechs.
Why it matters
Banks connecting to tokenised-asset and digital-money platforms gain an industry-run body, outside any single network, whose infrastructure-control and programmable-compliance toolkits they can use when assessing whether market infrastructures are suitable and interoperable.
